This indicator shows number of health workers per 10,000 population. Figures presented here may differ slightly to those given on the UN database because of different population estimates. In addition, extra health worker occupations are included here. See Other Information, below, for details.

Occupation minor group and occupation unit group - Elements of the Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) Hierarchy 2010. Descriptions of each occupation can be found in the relevant links in the SOC 2010 Hierarchy.

Other information

These data include more health worker occupations than are included in the UN metadata. The UN metadata specify International Standard of Classification of Occupations (ISCO-08) codes that map to the following SOC 2010 codes-

2211 Medical practitioners (ISCO-08 2211 and 2212)

2213 Pharmacists (ISCO-08 2262)

2215 Dental practitioners (ISCO-08 2261)

2231 Nurses (ISCO-08 2221)

2232 Midwives (ISCO-08 2222).

The UN metadata also specifies ISCO-08 codes 3221 Nursing associate professionals, and 3222 Midwifery associate professionals. These two groups have no link to SOC 2010.
