A breed is considered to be at risk if it has been classified as either critical, critical maintained, endangered, endangered-maintained or vulnerable. To find the full definitions for each of these categories please see the Global metadata.

Other information

Data for the UK is entered into the Domestic Animal Diversity - Information System (DAD-IS) system by DEFRA. Raw data is Available from the UK farm animal genetic resources (FAnGR) - breed inventory.

Please note that local breeds that have unknown risk status are excluded from calculations. Information on numbers of breeds classified at risk and unknown can be found in the source data. Data follows the UN specification for this indicator. This indicator has not been identified in collaboration with topic experts.
