Definitions

Debt represents the general government consolidated gross debt (Maastricht). It is made up of the sum of total central government gross debt, total local government gross debt, and cross holdings of local and central government gross debt.

Exports of goods and services is represented by total trade worldwide exports in current prices.

Calculations

General government consolidated gross debt divided by exports of goods and services, then multiplied by 100 to obtain a percentage.

Other information

“Exports of goods and services” data concepts, and concepts of public and publicly guaranteed external debt data are both in accordance with the sixth edition of the Balance of Payments and International Investment Position Manual (BPM6). Data follows the UN specification for this indicator. This indicator has been identified in collaboration with topic experts.
